Composting just ain't that hard!

I am not even sure how I got started on it but have been watching composting vids and people not only make this more difficult then necessary, they spend just tons of money on bins and such.
Now I can see those who live in the city having to kitchen compost and spend money on these things (though it's cheaper to make your own...just not as pretty I guess) but for the most part, anything you bury in the ground will compost. We have quite a bit of land and my grass and leaves all go into one pile. My kitchen scraps go into another and I cover it with the leaves and grass as well as dirt. I don't measure anything or add certain parts of this to that. I just dump it and then cover it. I always get a rich black soil. I use a cheap five gallon bucket I got from LOWES.
And yes, I add the milk in cereal bowls, I add any kind of left over food we have. I dump it and cover it....winter months I cover it with soil. About April I move over and start a new pile next to the winter one. At the end of the summer I take the old soil from my buckets and containers and that goes into the pile as well. I have been doing this before ever reading anything about it...
It really isn't rocket science.

Almost spring and Garden fever

I am so excited this time of year. I gather my seeds and sort through them....I could prolly do this days on end if I were left alone.
I just ordered my ten bags of soil, manure, cheap top soil and some other supplies. Free shipping with orders that exceed $99.00 and for me, that is easy to do.
I wanted to try something new with my veggies this year (the reason for the new soil and such) so I bought ten of the 10 gallon smart pots. Sort of like bucket gardening. With hub recovering from open heart surgery, I am trying to make it less time consuming (such as pulling weeds on a daily basis) and easier to get to.
I have heard nothing but good about these smart pots so I am hoping for the best here.
All my medicinals are pretty much left to themselves. Same with my herbs except the few I keep close at hand for cooking and such.
I wanted to to try to make composting easier too. I guess I am just preparing myself in case the plants have to be neglected here and there. I never know what is going to happen with hub and the last time he was in the hospital, I was there with him almost two weeks. Before that it was more than a month! So this year I thought I would rig a few things around in case another similar situation arises.
In any case, I am looking forward to the next 6 months and hope to spend more time with my plants and out in nature:)
